ABOUT SHARP EXHAUSTS

Custom exhaust specialists.

Family-owned.

Australian-made.

Sharp Exhausts has been operating out of Sunbury since 2012.

One workshop, one focus: building custom exhaust systems properly, using the right materials and the right techniques. Every system is designed and custom-made in-house. The tube is cut and bent on-site to suit the exact dimensions of each vehicle. The joins are welded by hand.

Quality fabrication from scratch, every time.

Meet Ben

Ben has been in the exhaust industry for over 24 years. It started with work experience in Year 10: he walked into a workshop, found something he was good at and genuinely enjoyed, and never left the trade. He has always worked locally, building a reputation in Sunbury and the surrounding areas based entirely on the quality of his work.

Ben has a particular passion for custom design, working through the requirements of a build, finding the best solution for the vehicle and the owner, and seeing the reaction when it's done right. He designed the Sharp Exhausts 79 Series Landcruiser system himself, based on years of working with these vehicles and a clear understanding of what they need.

Outside the workshop, Ben is a keen fisherman and spends his time with his family.

Meet Harry

Harry came to Sharp Exhausts the same way Ben did, work experience. He spent 12 months learning the trade alongside Ben before joining the team permanently in November 2025. He has always had a passion for working on cars, and found the variety of work at Sharp Exhausts exactly what he was looking for.

Outside the workshop, Harry is a member of Newham CFA, enjoys 4WD-ing and camping, and has recently added the vehicle he's always wanted: a Land Rover Defender 4x4 Tourer, which he's looking forward to working on.

Why 409 and 304 Stainless Steel?

What steel is used in a quality exhaust system?

Sharp Exhausts uses only 409- and 304-grade stainless steel. Both are chosen specifically for exhaust applications. 409 stainless is a ferritic stainless steel with excellent heat resistance and good corrosion resistance. It is the standard for quality exhaust fabrication, durable under the constant heat cycling of an exhaust system, and significantly more resistant to rust and corrosion than mild steel or aluminised steel.

304 stainless steel is an austenitic grade with even higher corrosion resistance and is used where additional durability is required. It has a cleaner, brighter finish and performs well in harsh operating environments. Both grades significantly outlast the mild steel used in many standard and budget systems. They won't rust through, corrode away, or need replacing in a few years. Buy it once, buy it properly.

WHY TIG WELDING?

What is the difference between TIG and MIG welding for exhaust systems?

TIG welding (Tungsten Inert Gas) is a more precise and technically demanding process than MIG welding. It gives the welder greater control over the heat and the weld pool, producing cleaner, stronger joins with less spatter and a superior finish.

For exhaust work specifically, TIG welding matters because exhaust systems are under constant thermal stress, expanding and contracting with every heat cycle. A TIG weld holds up to that stress better than a MIG weld, and it produces a join that is more resistant to cracking and leaking over time.

TIG welding also requires significantly more skill and practice than MIG welding. Not every exhaust fabricator offers it. At Sharp Exhausts, every system is TIG welded — not because it's the fastest approach, but because it's the right one.
